Women with moderate-to-severe psoriasis in Spain (BIOBADADERM registry) breastfeed less when compared with general population

J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol. 2022 Mar;36(3):e205-e20

Key messages

Abstract

Intro
Our primary objective was describing the impact of PsO in breastfeeding among women with moderate-to-severe PsO included in the BIOBADADERM Registry (Spain).

Methods
We identified all pregnancies registered from October 2008 to February 2021, contacted the women and collected information about their pregnancies and breastfeeding retrospectively. We identified 38 women and 72 pregnancies (all single) from 10 hospitals.

Results
Our results indicate a greater reduction in breastfeeding than previously described in Spanish women (68.57% vs. 80.3%) or even in women with AR (76.9%) and are similar to other findings in PsO women (65%). Among the reasons could be PsO activity during pregnancy and postpartum flare of PsO.

Conclusions
Further studies confirming these results are necessary in other to describe the causes of this decreased in breastfeeding in women with moderate-to-severe PsO and help them make important decisions, such as whether to breastfeed or not.
